Student opportunities and activities
At Rockdale Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs may include:
Summer and Winter PSSA Competitions (Years 3-6)
Participation in summer and winter competitions across a range of sports including soccer, netball, basketball, cricket and tennis.
Botany Bay / Sydney East Representative Trials (Years 3-6)
Opportunities for students to trial for representative teams across a range of sports.
School Carnivals
Annual swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals for student participation and progression to zone levels.
Zone Carnivals
Athletics, swimming and cross-country events for students who qualify based on qualifying guidelines from school competition.
Intensive Swimming Program (Years 1-6)
Structured swimming lessons designed to build water confidence and strengthen swimming skills.
Gymnastics Program (Even Years)
A specialised program implemented every second year to support the development of coordination, balance and foundational movement skills.

Rocky Rangers (HPGE)
A program designed to extend HPGE students in the social-emotional domain.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
One representative from each class is elected to contribute to school decision-making and student voice initiatives.
Student Leadership Team
Comprising six students in the roles of School Captains, Vice-Captains and two Prefects who represent the school at formal events and support key initiatives. Annual participation in this national event, offering students access to leadership workshops and inspirational speakers.
Sport Captains
Two captains are appointed for each of the four houses, providing a total of eight leadership positions that promote teamwork, sportsmanship and house spirit.
Rocky Rangers
A visible student leadership initiative for students in Years 3-6 who have been identified as High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) learners within the social-emotional domain. Participants engage in a structured 30-minute weekly program that develops leadership development, collaboration and builds upon capabilities. Students support peers on the playground, fostering inclusion, student agency and visible leadership.
Student Leadership Opportunities
SRC Initiatives: Engagement in student-led fundraising projects that build organisational, communication and leadership skills.
National Young Leaders Day: Participation in a national leadership event that inspires and extends students through keynote speakers and leadership workshops.
Sport Pathways
PSSA competitions, zone carnivals and representative trials to extend students' advanced sporting ability.
St George Performing Arts Festival (SPAF)
A creative performance and arts initiative that fosters imaginative expression and artistic talent.

Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.

Student Leadership Opportunities
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
